22nd September 2019:

Sheila and Barry were fabulous hosts and go over and above to accommodate you. We arrived by train and the day before Sheila e mailed to see what time we would be approximately be arriving. I told her we were arriving by train lunch time and they very kindly offered to pick us up and said would be fine to check in also. Thought that was a lovely touch and very thoughtful of them. Breakfast was very nice and set us up for the day. We certainly would not hesitate in going back.

Tips:

St Ives is a beautiful place with lots of wonderful walks, fabulous scenery and not to mention the lovely beaches. Plenty to do and see and loads of places to eat and stop off at and watch the world go by. You must have one of the Cornish Pasty’s from one of the shops by the harbour, they are so yummy! We just love it and can never fault such a beautiful place, Cornish charm at its best.

2nd September 2019:

Warm welcome (even transported our bags to the station for us ! — and you can ask to be picked up). Hosts are extremely obliging and do everything they can to make your stay perfect. Ask for the room at the top : the view is amazing. The guest house is just up the hill from the Tate, so you get the best of both worlds : quiet and central.

Tips:

Tips : though a small town, there's lots to do in St Ives, not to mention all the places a bus ride away : 5 days was not enough, though we got plenty in. St Michael's Mount is a bus ride away (one bus every hour, so download the timetable). Bring a bottle of water to wash the sand off your feet after the beach, as there are no taps (and the town is plastic-free, so no bottles). Too many good restaurants to mention any one in particular (and no bad experiences). The ones giving on the ocean are obviously the most crowded ; for the posher ones you need to book in advance.

Sheila and Barry were both very helpful. We travelled by train and Barry picked us up at the station. They were very knowledgeable about the area and helped us plan our trip. Breakfast was good especially the fruit and there was always fresh milk in the room fridge.

Tips:

We travelled by bus everywhere and the coaster buses show you the are.we can recommend a visit to geevor tin mine and the telegraph museum at porth curnow but don,t eat in their cafe there is a cafe further down the road. The union pub is good and the pasta and pizza restaurant but it's a good idea to book as everywhere gets very busy.

Sheila and Bryan made us very welcome and provided us with a tasty and plentiful freshly cooked breakfast. The views from our lofty room were beautiful and gave us an ever changing view of St Ives and the sea. Very useful to have a fridge in the room too though it did make some funny noises at night! We hope to visit again!

Tips:

Becks restaurant at Carbis Bay does the most tasty choice of fish dishes, especially the cod and chips and fish curry. For fish fresh from the sea, try the fish platter to share at the Sloop Inn in St Ives, it's a feast! Art lovers will love the Porthminster Gallery.

Both Sheila & Barry were excellent hosts.nothing was too much trouble for them. I was particularly grateful to the help & kindness they showed to wards me. I was travelling on my own with a disability to my knee & thigh muscles due to sciatic nerve issues. Breakfast was as you wished & once again Sheila was very happy to provide your choices. Just 4 happy days & with Barry helping me to get to train, buses etc on time it was a sad moment in saying good bye.

Tips:

The gift shops selling local made wares just wonderful & not to be missed. If you see something you like buy straight away or else you could miss out

21st August 2018:

Sheila and Barrie were excellent hosts; our room was clean and we were provided with everything we needed. The Portarlington is situated in a superb area to see St Ives and is only a short walk from the beach and restaurants. I was impressed with the beautiful flowers that the B&B was decorated in and the homemade cooked breakfast in the morning. We were provided with more than enough food during our stay and felt thoroughly welcomed by Sheila and Barrie. We will definitely book to stay here again.

Tips:

We particularly enjoyed the Beach Cafe Bar along St Ives harbour (excellent prosecco) and the food in the Hub, also along the harbour was amazing.

We had a room on the top floor with a view on the bay. When we opened the windows the wind came in. That was very nice. Sheila and Barrie weer also nice people. They served a nice English breakfast.

Tips:

The Union Inn had very nice diners and friendly staff. We went to the Tate Gallery and the Barbara Hepworth Museum and sculpture garden. Also nice is a walk along the coastel path. Don't go to the Pizzeria Little piece of salmon. Nice is also Sculpture Garden Tremenheere in Penzance. 30 min from Portarlington. Also nice restaurant there.

When you are unwell you just want to be at home. Sheila and Barry took great care of me making us feel at home. Barry took me al the way to Penzance hospital and waited there. They are very kind. I couldn't eat the breakfast but my friend training for her 25k assured me that it really good. The room was very clean and the view amazing! There is a small fridge that helps alot. Hope to visit again one day!

Tips:

St Ives is just a lovely place. We took the bus out from St Ives to Lands end and Penzance it was a very love day trip. You need a car if you want to explore more further out .. But St Ives is lovely to stay if you just want a relaxing weekend break and prefer going with a train from London

Sheila and Barrie were lovely and accommodating hosts. It was lovely staying with them. Portarlington is conveniently located (and not on steep slopes or inclines) and very comfortable and clean. Sheila also cooks a delicious full English breakfast. We really enjoyed staying with them and would definitely recommend Portarlington as a base for anyone exploring Cornwall.
