Maddie & Duncan are perfect hosts. Friendly chatty & gave lots of tips for things to do locally. A lovely prepared breakfast in the morning, with great choices on the menu to start your day off.

Tips:

The Guest house is a 5 - 10 minute walk into St Ives, ours,Kurt’s & centre, depending on your pace. Downhill on the way in, but the climb home isn’t daunting as it accessed by 2 sets of steps that make the climb back easier. So anyone who doesn’t mind a walk will be happy with it. There is also 2 taxi companies in St Ives Recommended Places to eat. - The Mermaid Restaurant (Lovely Seafood) The Captains Table @the Sloop Inn (Great Gastro Pub) Hub (Lovely Burgers & bites) All of them have a good selection of beers & drinks etc.

Madie and Duncan were excellent hosts and made me feel most welcome. I particularly enjoyed the chats with them and other guests over breakfast. The breakfasts were very tasty and the room had everything I needed. It was very special to have a distant view of the sea when drinking my coffee in bed! I will definitely be back. Thanks very much Madie and Duncan xx

Tips:

I came to St Ives on my own to do a course at the School of Painting. The course was excellent and I hope to do another one next year! I felt comfortable eating out on my own and would particularly recommend the Porthmeor Beach Cafe. Of course, visits to the Tate, Barbara Hepworth's place and local art galleries were a priority for me. The Tate's 10 minute talks by an expert were particularly inspiring!

Thank you for a very enjoyable stay, Madie and Duncan are very welcoming hosts. I stayed in the Crysede room, comfortable bed, nice bedlinen, towels, toiletries and a seaview too. Madie is a wealth of knowledge on the St Ives and Newlyn art scenes and I came away having learned lots of new information. The B&B is a fine example of the arts and crafts period and is clearly well loved. The breakfast choices were very good and beautifully prepared by Duncan.

Tips:

Amazing galleries and art studios to visit. Ate very well at the beachside cafe/ restaurants on Porthminster beach and Porthmeor beach.

The Painters Cottage enjoys a prime location close to the train station and a short walk to either the bus station or downtown. The decoration was sublime, and it really felt like an artist residence!

Tips:

St Ives is at the heart of the Southwest Coastal path, one of the best hiking paths in the UK, with wild countryside, sweeping seafront panoramas, pretty ports and historic county towns. You can hike St Ives to Zennor or St Ives to Penzance, it would be a trip to remember! The Barbara Hepworth Museum is a gem in St Ives too!

I was so surprised I was delayed by four hours on the train. Maddi called to check if I was ok and picked me up from the station. I was made so welcome and shown to my room and I am walking the south west path and they game me excellent info on the terrain and places to visit etc. breakfast was amazing and that view over the beach and sea was amazing watching the sun rise. I would definitely stay there again and have booked to do so for a longer period. If you choose to stay here you won’t be disappointed I was made to feel like a member of family like everyone the invite into their house.

What a fantastic find, we loved our stay here. The Seaview room was beautiful and very well equipped. The bed was very comfortable and the bath was huge! Breakfast was so well cooked, we opted for the full English and everything was very tasty and great quality. There was also a lot of options to chose from. Such an added perk to be able to park at the property too. Duncan and Madie were wonderful hosts, really accommodating and approachable. We would really recommend this B&B and next time we're in St Ives, we'll definitely be booking again.

Tips:

Rum and Crab shack in the harbour had the most amazing cocktails and food. Moomaid of Zennor has the best ice cream.

Very clean bedroom with tea, coffee, and biscuits. The breakfast prepared by Duncan was a highlight. Really enjoyed chatting to both of them. They were more than happy to cater off-menu for my partner who's a vegetarian. On the day of our departure, it was pissing down and Maddie was kind enough to allow us a late checkout. If that was not enough, Duncan gave us a ride to the Penzance train station for our night train. Special mention - Maddie's christmas cake was excellent!

My partner and I really enjoyed our time at The Painters Cottage. Hosts Maddie and Duncan are a very nice, helpful and friendly couple who gave us a very warm welcome. They love interacting with guests and took a genuine interest in our days, lives and wellbeing. Plenty of hints, tips and recommendations to hand. The Seaview room was nice, spacious and beautifully decorated, as was the whole property. The copper bath was something else! Breakfast was top notch. We went for the full English and smoked haddock. Other options were available. We left with a very warm feeling and will definitely seek the Painters Cottage out next time we are in St. Ives. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Tips:

The Thai restaurant on the Harbour was very nice as was the Porthmeor Beach Cafe. The cinema is a good option for a rainy evening and the Tuesday night jazz club at the Western Hotel was very impressive - especially as free entry.

Very warm and welcoming hosts who are eager to ensure guests are comfortable and at ease in what is lovely accommodation. I had everything I needed in my room and slept well, as the house is situated on a quiet residential road. I enjoyed my breakfast on both mornings with the hot food nicely cooked and well presented. I travelled by train and the close proximity of this accommodation to the station was a major factor when I was looking for somewhere to stay. My two night stay at The Painter’s Cottage was delightful and I have no hesitation in recommending this lovely B and B.

Tips:

If you are in St Ives for a walking holiday with HF Holidays and want more time to explore St Ives itself, then I recommend staying at the Painter’s Cottage before or after your walking holiday. The HF hotel is literally around the corner- I could see The Painter’s Cottage from my hotel room! I deposited my luggage at the HF hotel after my departure from The Painter’s Cottage and went off for a few hours in St Ives before checking in to HF. Very convenient!

Had such a wonderful greeting from Madie and Duncan, great tips on where to go etc. The place is spotless, breakfast was cooked by Duncan, and it was top-notch and the best way to start the day. St Ives is such a beautiful place to visit and having a good place to stay and wake up in the morning knowing you are going to be looked after just sets you up for the whole day. 5* and highly recommended.

Tips:

Madie gave us a top tip of a place to go and visit after we had done the photo thing at lands end, and that was to go and visit The Minack Theatre, Porthcurno. WOW just amazing and so is the story and history behind its founder. Thank you Madie, that made our trip :)

The Painters Cottage is an authentic British Arts and Crafts jewel; responsibility for preserving its fabric and aesthetic for future generations currently rests in the capable hands of Maddie and Duncan, true guardians of this mid C19th flourishing of decorative arts which spread throughout Europe. To stay here is to imbibe the very essence of intellectual and artistic endeavour that permeates from its walls. If you love this period in art history you will feel rejuvenated after your stay here. Maddie and Duncan are excellent hosts and can advise you on must-see highlights during your stay in Cornwall. Their hospitality is second to none and the location is perfect for enjoying the coastal trails on the doorstep.

Tips:

1. Maddie can provide you with an itinerary of places to visit based upon your interests. 2. Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum were key highlights for me. 3. If you enjoy running, go for a bracing early morning (hilly) run along the harbour to see the sun rise with the cheeky seagulls and return to a warming bowl of porridge and cooked breakfast - all cooked to your preferences.

Tips:

Need to book restaurants well in advance as good ones really popular in summer. We ate at Porthminster Beach Cafe, Porthgwidden Beach Cafe and Porthmeor Beach Cafe. All very good. Visited Tate St. Ives and Barbara Hepworth museum and garden. Highly recommended.

Painters Cottage is a delight. The room (we were in Sea View) was excellent with a wonderful en suite. The breakfasts were fantastic and big! The whole place was clean and fresh. It was located close to the town centre, a good beach and the train station. And it had parking! But, then, many B&Bs can claim all of that. What sets Painters Cottage apart are the hosts, Duncan and Maddie; so friendly, so helpful, so knowledgeable about where to go and what to see and so friendly. We were chatting with them and two other guests as we prepared to go for dinner and they announced it was ‘aperitif time’ - wine all round and a good chat. But then, a good chat is guaranteed; everything from art or history to politics or food. They are a great double act. It was a great stay!

This was a lovely B&B to stay at in St. Ives. The room was beautiful and the hospitality of Madie and Duncan can't be beat! My husband and I stayed here while walking a portion of the South West Coast Path and it was a perfect place to relax. The breakfast was delicious and the packed lunches saved us the next day during our long walk. I hope to stay again soon!

Tips:

If you are a coastal walker, definitely go for the packed lunch! The hike from St. Ives to Pendeen is remote and you will be happy for a tasty lunch along the way.

I have stayed at many Bed and Breakfasts over the years, and seldom met hosts as friendly, helpful, generous and even entertaining as Madie and Duncan. They make you feel at home from the moment you walk in the door, and you may even regret having to leave. Breakfasts are copious AND good. The accommodations are fine; as a bonus, my room had a bathtub and a view of the ocean.

Tips:

St Ives is a town rich in history and culture. In addition to the unexpected surprise of a Tate gallery, I recommend a small, volunteer-run museum near the harbor. It documents the town’s history in personal and historic context with photographs, artifacts and stories of the impact of the many shipwrecks on the town and its population. A word to the unsuspecting: if you buy any food at the beach, or for that matter anywhere you see a congregation of Seagulls, guard it carefully. I had just bought an ice cream cone when I heard the flap of wings over my shoulder and before I knew what it was (and before I got so much as a lick), this thief had made off with the ice cream. It was the perfect crime. He got the entire ball; I was left with an empty cone and probably a stunned expression on my face. There are signs warning people about these guys – pay attention to them

We had a lovely stay at the Painters Cottage. Super clean room with lovely quality furnishings and decor with a view of the sea and everything you need; even matching coat hangers which is a thing for me! Quality soap and lotion in the stunning bathroom too and plenty of hot water. Wonderful tasty food served cheerfully by Duncan and Madie who are super hosts. They are very genuine people and very helpful. They were also very gracious when I broke a soap dish. Town is a short hop away so this B&B is very convenient as well as being lovely. We would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone to stay here.
